Hau’oli Makahiki Hou! (Happy New Year!) We know you’re excited to kick off 2014 right and with any luck, you’ll be doing that here in Hawaii. Check out some of the awesome things going on this month – get out there and have some fun! And don’t forget to please please pleeeease comment with any other additional events that we haven’t listed.
January 3rd, 5:00 PM – 2:00 AM
We know we’ve mentioned this event in the past – it occurs monthly in Chinatown. The art galleries, shops, restaurants and bars in the area collaborate to create a fresh, fun environment for all. Explore the galleries and shops until about 9 PM, then the bars and restaurants take over the scene with delicious food and drinks galore! This is a great opportunity to socialize with new people and discover a part of Oahu that has been experiencing some serious changes recently. Be sure to stop by eleven44, the hottest new nightclub in town.
January 18th, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Head to Kualoa Ranch for a unique “farm-to-table” culinary experience. Local farmers and chefs will be presenting tasty dishes using fresh ingredients. There will also be a farmers’ market with ready-to-eat creations as well as produce and products straight from a variety of farms. Bring the whole family and treat your tastebuds while learning about the Hawaiian culture through arts and crafts such as lauhala weaving, lei making, surfboard shaping and poi pounding.
Pro Bowl Weekend
January 25th – January 26th
It’s that time of the year again! The weekend starts off with Open Practice at Aloha Stadium on Saturday. There will be fan contests, player interviews and a preview of the Pro Bowl game entertainment. That night, Waikiki will become party central. An outdoor celebration with food and drinks at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel will also include live music and a performance by the Pro Bowl cheerleaders. The Royal Grove will be opening their beer and wine garden to the public as part of the block party on Kalakaua Ave. On Sunday, the official tail gate party will take place on Richardson Field and then let the game begin!
Eat the Street
January 31st, 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Alright, for this event, your New Year’s resolution to try new things may need to outweigh your resolution to eat healthier. Eat the Street is a food truck rally that happens on the last Friday of every month in Kaka’ako (an up-and-coming district of Oahu). You would be hard-pressed to find an event with a greater variety of food. From the more typical hot dog, taco and Korean BBQ trucks to more eccentric options of waffle cakes, “puffettes” and chicken lollipops, you’ll wonder how you can possibly take another bite…but where there’s a will, there’s a way!
