Every year, visitors flock to Oahu in honor of any number of special occasions: honeymoons, anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, etc. If you aren’t familiar with the island, it can be tough to pick that perfect restaurant for your celebration. We have quite an amazing team here at Elite Concierge, with a very diverse palate. We asked some of our agents to discuss their favorite special occasion restaurants – read on for their responses!
“It’s a tie for me between Ocean House at the Outrigger Waikiki Reef Hotel and DK Steakhouse at the Waikiki Beach Marriott. Ocean House is definitely a special occasion dinner destination. It’s oceanside, so it’s perfect for watching the sunset and the food is amazing! On Friday nights, you can watch the Hilton Hawaiian Village fireworks show from your table. The coconut lobster skewers make for a truly decadent appetizer and the Cold Water Lobster Tails are so ono – they melt in your mouth. At DK Steakhouse, they have the best Rib Eye Steak – they dry age it themselves. The Maui Sweet Onion soup is the best onion soup I’ve ever had and the bacon wrapped scallops are just ridiculously delicious. Save room for the Chocolate Bomb for dessert! The staff are super attentive and nice. Be sure to request the lanai seating ahead of time, as there are only a couple of tables outside. If you end up sitting inside, bring a sweater – the air conditioning is always on high.”
“I love to dine at places with a gorgeous view. Who wants to sit indoors when we have such a beautiful island to admire?? That’s why I go to Hau Tree Lanai. The view is picture perfect for any occasion and the ambiance is wonderful. If you happen to be there for breakfast, I highly recommend the Crab Benedict – it’s to die for!”
“I’m a sucker for steak. I’ve had plenty of heated debates about which steakhouse is better and I’m sure it depends on the cut of meat that you prefer, but I’m a filet mignon girl all the way and my favorite place to go for any special occasion is Ruth’s Chris. There is one right in Waikiki, but if you don’t mind spending the extra bucks for a quick cab ride, I prefer the one in Restaurant Row. It tends to be less crowded and the staff really goes out of their way to make you feel special. For our anniversary, my husband and I were shown to a table covered in flower petals, we received a free glass of champagne each, a free dessert to share and a coupon, good for a free appetizer on our next visit. It’s expensive, but in this case, you really get what you pay for!
“I love to go to Nico’s Pier 38 for fresh seafood. They always have something new and fresh on the menu. The regular menu is also filled with delectable dishes like the Poke platter. This is a great spot for visitors looking to try all of the local flavors of the Hawaiian waters outside of Waikiki. The prices are also very affordable.”
“I guess if I had to choose just one, it would have to be Hula Grill. The food is excellent, the prices are moderate and of course the VIEW! Oh and don’t forget the Hula Pie!!”
“My favorite special occasion restaurant is Izakaya Gaku. I seriously believe that it’s the best Japanese restaurant on Oahu, and the food they serve is closest to what you would actually get in Japan because they don’t ‘Americanize’ their dishes. It’s a little pricey, but the quality of the food and their service makes it totally worth it. Everything I’ve ever tried here, from the miso to the sashimi to the oysters, has been delicious. But, since everyone else on the island seems to feel the same way about this place, reservations are definitely recommended – even during the middle of the week wait time for walk-ins is usually around 45 minutes.”
As you can see, you’ll have no shortage of special dining options when you visit. Most restaurants accept reservations and they are strongly recommended, particularly on weekends and for large parties. If you’re here for a holiday, they may even be required. We hope you found these reviews helpful!
