Getting Around Oahu: Waikiki Trolley

When you’re walking around Waikiki, you may be surprised by how many different modes of transportation you see: bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, cars, vans, limos, taxis, motor coaches, mini coaches, buses and of course the trolleys. This post will give you an overview of the Waikiki Trolley, operated by E Noa Tours.

There are four lines – the Pink Line, Red Line and Green Line are all hop on/hop off trolleys. The Blue Line is a sightseeing tour trolley (not hop on/hop off).

Waikiki Trolley

Pink Line: Waikiki/Ala Moana Shopping Shuttle
The Pink Line starts picking up as early as 9 AM. It runs every 10 minutes and stops include the DFS Galleria, a number of different Waikiki hotels, the Duke Kahanamoku Statue, King Kalakaua Plaza, the Hard Rock Café and the Ala Moana Shopping Center. This line is the only one that you can get on without needing to have a day pass – it’s $2 per person to hop aboard and exact change is required.

Red Line: Historic Honolulu Sightseeing Tour
The Red Line begins at about 8:30 AM and runs every 40 minutes. If you were to stay onboard for the duration of the route, it would take you 80 minutes. This line cruises through historic Honolulu and Chinatown. Stops include the DFS Galleria, Duke Kahanamoku Statue, Honolulu Museum of Art, State Capitol/Iolani Palace, Chinatown, Aloha Tower Marketplace, King Kamehameha Statue, Ward Warehouse, Ward Centre and Ala Moana Shopping Center.

Green Line: Scenic Diamond Head Sightseeing Tour
Same as the Red Line, the Green Line opens at 8:30 AM. It runs every 35 minutes and the full route takes 70 minutes. Stops for this line include the DFS Galleria, Duke Kahanamoku Statue, Honolulu Zoo, Waikiki Aquarium, Diamond Head Surf Lookout, Kahala Mall, Diamond Head Crater (base of the hike), Diamond Head Lookout, KCC Farmers’ Market on Saturdays and the Diamond Head Market & Grill. See our post from last week if you’re interested in further details about hiking up Diamond Head Crater.

Blue Line: Panoramic Coastline Tour
The Blue Line only runs 3 times per day (7:30 AM, 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM) and takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete the full route. This tour is a way to see the beautiful south shore of Oahu. There are photo stops (aka no disembarking) at Hanauma Bay, Halona Blow Hole/From Here to Eternity Lookout and Hawaii Kai Lookout. The tour also drives past Sandy Beach and stops at Sea Life Park and Kahala Mall.

There are multiple ticket options available. Children 3 and under are free, as they may sit on an adult’s lap:

  1. 1 Day 3-Line Pass (Pink, Red, Green) – One thing to note with this option is that you actually get the second consecutive day free!
  2. 4 Day 3-Line Pass (Pink, Red, Green)
  3. 7 Day 3-Line Pass (Pink, Red, Green)
  4. 1 Day Red Line OR Green line OR Blue Line Pass
  5. Blue Line Pass Upgrade – If you would like to add the Blue Line to any 3-Line 1, 4 or 7 Day Pass, you may do so for an extra $10 per adult, $7.50 per child

The trolleys are a fun and unique way to explore the Waikiki and neighboring areas. The hop on/hop off setup of the Pink, Red and Green Lines is perfect for “do-it-yourself” type travelers or for families with younger children who need the luxury of flexibility in their schedule. Have fun exploring!
