When you come to Hawaii, more than likely you’ve left a bunch of family and friends behind who are anxiously awaiting some souvenirs. Whether it’s a box of tasty chocolate covered macadamia nuts, a hula girl dashboard ornament, some beautiful island jewelry or a ukulele, you can find everything at the International Market Place in Waikiki. It features over 130 carts, shops and stands, all selling a variety of items that make perfect gifts or serve as reminders of your amazing vacation.
The market is open daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM and is located at 2330 Kalakaua Ave, spanning the block between Kalakaua and Kuhio Ave, with entrances on both sides. In addition to shopping, the International Market Place is great for dining and enjoying some free entertainment. The food court offers a diverse array of options, including Blue Water Shrimp (seafood and steak plates), Bautista’s Filipino Kitchen and Yummy Korean BBQ. You can also treat yourself to a refreshing shave ice or cone of Dole Whip (pineapple soft-serve). A farmers market is set up on Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Our suggestion? Check it out ASAP!! There is a redevelopment project scheduled to happen in the not so distant future which will alter the face of the International Market Place as we know it. While the project is said to help revitalize the area and create further jobs for locals, there will still be many who will mourn the change.
