Luaus: Germaine’s Luau

Alright folks, as promised, today we begin our luau series. As with the snorkeling series, we’re going to focus on Oahu, but we promise to provide you with more information on outer island luaus at a later time.

What is a luau?
A luau is a traditional Hawaiian party or feast, typically accompanied by live entertainment. The feast includes many of the dishes that we discussed in our Hawaiian Food post – kalua pork, huli-huli chicken, chicken long rice, lomi-lomi salmon, poi and occasionally laulau and poke. There is also usually some sort of island fish prepared. As for the entertainment, this can range from games and crafts to demonstrations and live music and dancing. Every luau on Oahu is unique in its offerings, despite having the same basic structure. We want to help you select the one that’s right for you!

Operating Days:
In the summer months, Germaine’s is open every day. During the winter months, it closes on Mondays.

Fun for all ages, Germaine’s Luau is a festive and casual luau that explores the rich cultural heritage of the Pacific Islands including Hawaii, Samoa, New Zealand and Tahiti. It is located in a beach setting about 28 miles west of Waikiki, where you can witness beautiful sunsets. Be a part of an Imu ceremony, where you will learn how the Hawaiians prepare the deliciousImage kalua (roasted) pig. Then eat to your heart’s content from the dinner buffet, offering both traditional island dishes as well as American fare. Following the feast, sit back and enjoy the Polynesian show, with highlights such as the high-energy, fast-moving Tahitian dance and the traditional Samoan fire-knife dance.

Kalua pig, chicken long rice, island fish, teriyaki beef, baked chicken, tossed green salad, poi, lomi-lomi salmon, rice, pineapple coleslaw, three bean salad, potato macaroni salad, sweet dinner rolls, coconut pudding, fresh pineapple, vanilla coconut cake, chocolate cake

Particularly Good For:
Anyone looking to party!! Large groups, couples and families alike will enjoy the informal atmosphere of Germaine’s. It has a high-energy, backyard BBQ feel and all adults 21 and older receive 3 drink tickets each. Good thing transportation is included 😉
